In an official letter dated October 22, 2025, and jointly signed by the President of ANA, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, and the General Secretary, Dame Joan Oji, PhD, the association announced Professor Aliagan’s nomination and successful screening for the ANA Fellowship Award 2025.
The honour, according to the letter, is reserved for individuals whose efforts and contributions have significantly advanced the propagation of literature in service to humanity.
The Association lauded Professor Aliagan for his “enormous investments in the literary genres as a shining example of humanism, promotion of the arts, and peaceful coexistence,” noting that his work embodies the ideals and spirit of literary growth and creative excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
The letter emphasized that the conferment follows a thorough assessment and approval process, acknowledging the professor’s “exceptional literary accomplishments, commitment to nurturing literary talents, and advocacy for freedom of expression and the power of the written and spoken word.”
ANA also underscored that the Fellowship remains a moral and professional honour, subject to revocation if ever misapplied or abused by its recipient.
Professor Aliagan and his guests have been invited to the official investiture ceremony, which will form part of the Opening Ceremony of the 44th International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place today Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre, Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Abuja, beginning at 12 noon.
The ANA Fellowship Award is one of the association’s highest honours, designed to celebrate and immortalize individuals who have made lasting impacts in the literary and intellectual life of the nation.
The association extended hearty congratulations to Professor Aliagan on this well-deserved honour, describing it as both a testament to his scholarly distinction and a call to greater service in the promotion of literature and creative freedom.
