Labour Party Reacts to Trump’s Offer To Intervene On Killings Of Nigerian Christians, Accuses Tinubu of Denying Worsening Humanitarian Tragedy

The Labour Party (LP) has issued a strongly worded statement applauding the reported intention of United States President Donald Trump to intervene in the ongoing targeted killings of Christians in Nigeria, describing the move as “godsent, timely and highly commendable,” while accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of denying a worsening humanitarian tragedy he once used as a political campaign tool.

LP National Publicity Secretary (Interim), Prince Tony Akeni, recalled in the statement how Tinubu wrote on his verified Twitter (now X) handle on January 19, 2014 — eleven years ago — condemning the killings of Christians under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, saying: “The slaughtering of Christian worshippers is strongly condemnable. It calls to question the competence of Jonathan to protect Nigerians.”

According to Labour Party, the statistics that Tinubu himself referenced in 2014 showed that 11,000 Christians were killed by Boko Haram fighters from 2009 to 2014, during the PDP years. Another 6,500 Christians, the statement said, were killed by extremist groups masquerading as Fulani herdsmen between 2010 and 2015 — just before the APC takeover.

However, the Party now claims the numbers under Tinubu’s own presidency have nearly doubled within a shorter timeframe.

“Under Tinubu’s watch as President, and in just two years between 2023 and 2025, 14,122 Christians have been massacred — an almost 100% casualty escalation in time ratio compared to the PDP years,” the Labour Party said.

The Party also reminded Nigerians that Tinubu and the late Muhammadu Buhari once led an APC delegation to the U.S. — specifically to Secretary of State John Kerry on January 25, 2015 — seeking American support to sack the Jonathan presidency on the basis of the same insecurity crisis they now allegedly downplay.

“It is therefore terribly wicked, godless and extremely unpatriotic of Bola Tinubu to deny that there are targeted Christian massacres in Nigeria,” the statement reads. “It is the height of shameless selfishness, betrayal of the constitution, and treason.”

Applauding Trump, Vance, Cruz, Hegseth, and others

The Labour Party praised President Donald Trump, U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Senator Ted Cruz, U.S. Secretary of War Peter Hegseth, former Mayor Mike Arnold and other American actors for what it described as “immense work of research, evaluation and conviction.”

The Party described President Trump’s proposed intervention as “godsent” and expressed confidence that many ordinary Nigerians — Christian and Muslim — would welcome any action that brings real protection to vulnerable communities under siege.

Moderate Muslims also targeted — LP insists

The statement emphasized that some moderate Muslims who sympathize with Christian communities have also faced targeted attacks or reprisals.

“The Labour Party entreats the U.S. government to extend protection and sustainable security cover to liberal and moderate Muslim communities whose members are also targeted because of their sympathy or support for their Christian neighbours,” the statement said.

Salute to Patriotic Nigerian Muslims

In a rare note of unity, the Labour Party commended Nigerian Muslim leaders who have supported the proposed U.S. intervention.

“They have shown that one united Nigeria — irrespective of religion or political differences — is truly possible if we have good leaders in place.”

The LP concluded that the real issue is not religious division — but leadership failure — and insists the Tinubu administration can no longer mask or distract from the scale of the bloodshed under its watch.
