The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has elevated one of Nigeria’s most respected literary and media scholars, Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan, into the prestigious circle of ANA Fellows. His formal investiture took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Mpape, Abuja — a location that has become symbolic for the nation’s most significant literary gatherings.
The event, attended by prominent writers, academics and cultural icons — including Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka — was not merely ceremonial. It was a stamp of recognition for decades of consistent contribution to the growth of Nigerian literature, journalism and scholarship.
Professor Aliagan currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology at Kwara State University, Malete. His academic career has been notable for blending rigorous communication research with creative writing, particularly poetry and drama. His academic publications, which interrogate Nigeria’s media environment, digital communication patterns and political economy of the press, have continued to influence discourse within journalism and media studies.
Beyond the lecture halls, Professor Aliagan’s creative works — his poetry volumes, theatrical scripts and short story collections — reflect contemporary Nigerian realities with originality and depth. His long-standing commitment to mentoring young writers, leading literary circles, editing literary works and establishing publishing platforms has created new channels for emerging voices to enter the Nigerian writing space.
ANA’s Fellowship status is reserved only for individuals who have made sustained, far-reaching impact in the world of letters. For many in attendance, Friday’s recognition was widely viewed as a well-earned honour for a man whose intellectual service bridges academia, literary art and public enlightenment.
During the same Congress in Abuja, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi was returned unopposed as ANA President — a development seen as a vote of confidence in the association’s leadership direction.
As Professor Aliagan’s name is now officially inscribed among the Fellows of ANA, his new status reinforces his standing as a towering figure shaping Nigerian writing culture, media scholarship and national discourse. The honour also signals to younger writers and scholars that literary excellence, service to community and intellectual integrity remain central to the future of Nigerian creative enterprise.
For Professor Aliagan, this is both a recognition of a rich legacy — and a platform for even greater contributions to the nation’s literary and intellectual heritage.
