The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, at the weekend declared strong commendation for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over the ongoing construction of the Ekpan–Ovu to Erhoike Road in Ethiope East, describing the intervention as a powerful symbol of people–centred governance and a direct catalyst for grassroots transformation.

Prof. Tonukari gave this affirmation when he hosted the Ward 11 Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his country home in Isiokolo, in what stakeholders described as one of the most strategic grassroots political engagements in recent times, aimed at strengthening internal party bonds, deepening unity and re–engineering collective political synergy within the ward.

According to the Commissioner, the Ekpan–Ovu–Erhoike project represents more than asphalt and concrete. It reflects a bold developmental approach that transcends politics and directly touches lives.

“The commencement of work on the Ekpan–Ovu to Erhoike Road is a testimony to Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to balanced development across Delta State,” Prof. Tonukari said, stressing that governance achieves its noblest essence when the benefits are felt in rural communities and among ordinary citizens.

He emphasized that development must never be seen as a partisan trophy, noting that genuine progress knows no political colouration and that Delta’s collective progress is achieved only when policymakers and political actors prioritize the people over partisan boundaries.

“We must continue to support his administration because progress knows no political boundary — it benefits all,” the Commissioner stated.

Prof. Tonukari also congratulated APC members in Ward 11 for their unity and inclusiveness, especially for warmly receiving recent defectors from the PDP. He said the manner in which new entrants were integrated reflected the strength and maturity of the party’s grassroots base.

“The APC in Ward 11 has demonstrated an admirable unifying spirit,” he noted. “Our ability to welcome new members with open arms shows that we are focused not on division but on growth and impact.”Prof. Tonukari Hosts Ward 11 APC EXCO, Commends Oborevwori’s Inclusive Leadership as Ekpan–Ovu–Erhoike Road Construction Progresses

Responding, the Ward Chairman, Mr. Roji Lawrence, praised Prof. Tonukari for his humility, accessibility and down–to–earth approach to leadership. He described the meeting as an inspiring turning–point that provided valuable clarity on current political developments, strengthened internal cohesion, and rekindled the resolve of members to reposition the ward for stronger political relevance.

The well–attended parley, which drew respected party stakeholders, ended with renewed vows of unity, loyalty, and intensified grassroots mobilisation — further underlining Prof. Tonukari’s growing reputation as a bridge–builder, a strategic thinker, and a leader whose politics remains anchored on community development, not personal ambition.

Political observers say the engagement has again placed Isiokolo and Ward 11 in national conversation, not just for partisan reasons, but for the emerging narrative that development can — and must — be appreciated across party lines when the direct beneficiaries are the people at the grassroots.
