The nation’s internal security architecture was shaken on Tuesday following the dramatic announcement that the Department of State Services (DSS) has sacked a staggering 115 of its personnel in what the agency described as part of an ongoing cleansing operation to restore discipline, professional ethics and integrity within the Service.

The revelation — announced via the official X handle of the DSS — confirmed that the purge followed a meticulous review and authentication process which identified officers whose conduct fell short of the agency’s standards. The names of all affected personnel have now been made available to the public through the Service’s official website.

In a bold and unprecedented layer to the announcement, the DSS raised the alarm that some of the dismissed operatives have continued to parade themselves as active intelligence officers — engaging unsuspecting citizens and institutions for dubious transactions. The Service has therefore issued an emphatic warning to Nigerians to immediately cease any dealings with those individuals.

The DSS statement read in part:
“As part of the ongoing reforms in the Department of State Services (DSS), the public is hereby informed that a total of 115 personnel have been dismissed over a period. In addition to earlier disclaimers on the duo of Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, the Service finds it necessary to warn citizens of the fraudulent activities of some of these persons still posing as DSS personnel.”

In what appears to be a major transparency step in its institutional reform, the agency disclosed that the full identities of all 115 dismissed officers are now publicly accessible for verification at: https://dss.gov.ng/media/more/4.

The statement emphasized that no Nigerian must transact, consult, take instructions from, or claim to be dealing with those former staff in any official capacity whatsoever.

In its concluding remark, the agency reiterated its renewed commitment to professional conduct and called on citizens to be vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious individuals or illegal intelligence activity.
“For requests, enquiries or complaints, the Service can be reached on 09088373515 or via email at: dsspr@dss.gov.ng,” the statement added.

The sweeping disciplinary action has immediately triggered nationwide commentary — both in security and civic circles — with many describing it as one of the most sweeping internal accountability actions ever openly announced by the Service.

Observers say the move could signal a shift toward tougher enforcement and transparency in the intelligence community — while also raising fresh questions about how many impersonators have been operating undetected until now.
