The Obidient Movement Worldwide has moved to calm speculations surrounding the recent resignations of some of its interim appointees, insisting that the development is a normal phase in the evolution of a mass citizens’ movement committed to national transformation.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the group emphasised that the movement remains united, focused and unshaken in its mission to “rescue Nigeria from the bankrupt politics that has resulted in misery and poverty.”
Dr. Tanko said the resignations, though notable, were far from a setback. Rather, they reflect the intensity of the national struggle and the demands of building a truly revolutionary platform. “Resignation from leadership of a popular, revolutionary movement in our current situation is understandable,” he noted, adding that “many may not endure to the end. But these transitions are part of the growth process and unavoidable in building an efficient movement that will restore prosperity, hope and justice to Nigeria.”
He reiterated that the Obidient Movement is fundamentally a voluntary citizens’ platform where individuals freely step forward to serve. “The Obidient Movement acknowledges the recent resignations of a few interim appointees. As a voluntary citizens’ movement, individuals can nominate themselves for service. We appreciate their service to our shared mission,” the statement said.
Dr. Tanko further stressed that the movement remains open, inclusive and responsive to the concerns of its members and partners. “We are open to feedbacks and suggestions as we strengthen, structure and consolidate our movement,” he affirmed.
Addressing questions about the role of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, he stated clearly that H.E. Peter Obi continues to be a pillar of support. “H.E. Peter Obi has continually made contributions to the movement both physically, financially and otherwise,” the statement emphasised, countering insinuations of disengagement.
Calling for calm, unity and renewed commitment across the global Obidient community, the movement urged its members to remain focused on the overarching national mission. “We encourage everyone to remain steadfast and continue to contribute positively to the process of renewal and growth. Together, we will emerge stronger and more united in the pursuit of our shared vision for a new Nigeria.”
In a firm warning to detractors and a reassurance to supporters, the movement stated that it will never compromise its principles or engage in unwholesome behaviour. “As a movement we shall continue to raise the bar of participation in governance and at no time descend into activities that are not edifying of our nation such as spying, bigotry or thuggery.”
Dr. Tanko also disclosed that the leadership is in consultation with stakeholders and will soon unveil a fresh roadmap. “Soonest, and after due consultation, we will announce the next line of actions that will make the Obidient Movement the vanguard of national redemption and transformation,” he said.
The statement ended with a rallying call to members nationwide and in the diaspora: “Let us keep faith with the mission.”
