Chief Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arafat Ezenwa, popularly known as Ijele Nwanyi Igbo Nile, has weighed in on the recent public back-and-forth between Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and former governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, urging both leaders to embrace responsibility, restraint, and development-driven dialogue in the interest of the people.
In a strongly worded statement released on social media, Mrs. Ezenwa said she felt compelled, as a concerned citizen and community leader, to address the rising tensions generated by comments exchanged between the two prominent figures. She warned that the state and the nation cannot afford political distractions at a time when citizens expect purposeful leadership.
According to her, Anambra State—like the rest of the country—is grappling with critical challenges ranging from insecurity to deteriorating infrastructure, youth unemployment, and deepening economic uncertainty. “At such a time, leaders are expected to prioritize governance, not political point-scoring,” she said, stressing that public office is a privilege that must be exercised with discipline and focus.
Mrs. Ezenwa emphasized that while criticism and debate are vital components of a healthy democracy, such engagements must be rooted in facts rather than emotions or personal attacks. She argued that political posturing does not fix roads, create jobs, or rebuild public trust. “Evidence-based dialogue is the only path to progress,” she noted.
Speaking about Peter Obi’s role in the unfolding exchange, she highlighted his longstanding reputation for transparency, prudence, and service-oriented leadership. She referenced his record as governor—particularly his management style, commitment to accountability, and notable savings for the state—as proof of the values he consistently embodies. “He engages issues calmly and constructively, without hostility or distractions,” she added.
Mrs. Ezenwa said Nigerians are increasingly frustrated with unnecessary tensions and political theatrics, insisting that what the people want is collaboration, solution-driven policies, and leaders who rise above personal differences. Public disagreements among leaders, she warned, should never overshadow the urgent development needs of ordinary citizens.
She called on all public office holders to adopt a more responsible leadership posture by presenting clear developmental plans and demonstrating measurable progress instead of trading verbal blows. “Criticizing fellow leaders does not build roads, hospitals, or schools. What moves a society forward is character, competence, and genuine commitment to the people,” she stated.
In her conclusion, Mrs. Ezenwa maintained that the matter transcends personalities and touches on core values of governance, respect, and service. She reiterated her support for issue-based discourse and leadership that puts citizens first. “Peter Obi continues to exemplify a calm, disciplined, and service-oriented approach that Nigeria urgently needs,” she said.
The intervention by Ijele Nwanyi Igbo Nile adds to ongoing calls from various quarters urging Nigeria’s political actors to elevate public discourse and prioritize the welfare of the people over partisan disagreements.
