Born on February 15, 1942, the late Sir Hyacinthmary, fondly known as “14:14,” passed away peacefully in his home on August 14, 2025. His departure marked the end of an eventful life defined by diligence, faith, community service and unwavering commitment to values he held dear.

Paying tribute to the departed community leader, the Rising Sun, Umuojemba 2008 Set of St. John’s Cross Seminary, Nsukka, described him as a man of honour and dignity whose life and influence helped shape the destiny of the Ovoko community.
In a statement jointly signed by the Class President, Dr. Chukwunweolu Stephen Olisaemeka, and the Class Executive Secretary, Mr. Obiora Henry Ekene, the group expressed deep shock at his passing.
“We received with rude shock and utter disbelief the passing of the late Sir Hyacinthmary Okafor Ugwu to eternal glory. But we will never question God, for His will always remains the ultimate decision. While we mourn his demise, we pray that his gentle soul will find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty God,” the statement read.
As family members, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects, tributes poured in to celebrate a life that left an indelible mark on both his immediate community and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Sir Hyacinthmary Okafor Ugwu remains remembered as a man whose legacy of integrity, service, and faith will endure for generations to come.
