Farmers and entrepreneurs in Nsukka have been urged to embrace a culture of collaboration as a strategic pathway to expanding their businesses, increasing competitiveness and unlocking new market opportunities. This charge was delivered during a one-day pilot training programme organised by the Nsukka Women in Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA) in collaboration with the Enugu State Government for women and youths in the area.

The advice came from the Regional Coordinator of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Enugu Region, Mrs Francisca Odega, who was represented at the event by an officer of the council, Mr Vershima Gyam. He emphasised that collaboration is essential in today’s dynamic business environment, noting that partnership among farmers and entrepreneurs fosters growth, learning and increased competitiveness.

According to him, collaboration also helps in sharing responsibilities and distributing risks among partners, making it easier for small-scale businesses to scale up and remain resilient. He explained that the National Export Promotion Council serves as a bridge between local producers and the global market, ensuring that Nigerian farmers and entrepreneurs are well-positioned to participate successfully in international trade.

Also speaking at the programme, the Director-General of the South East Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture and Vice President of the Nsukka Chamber of Commerce, Dr Dan Ochu, said the training was designed to sensitise women, youths and the general public to the vast opportunities available in the export market. He added that the Chamber plays a critical role in educating business owners on how to access loans and various grants to expand their enterprises.

In her address, the Director-General of the Nsukka Women Chamber of Commerce, Lolo Mercy Odu, stated that the training was intended to expose women and youths to available government loans and incentives, including grants, while also educating farmers on how to properly package their products for the global market. She encouraged business owners to formally register their businesses in order to qualify for such financial opportunities and support.

Participants at the training expressed appreciation to the organisers for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They pledged to utilise the knowledge and opportunities provided to improve their businesses and livelihoods.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, alongside members of his team, and Hon. Dan Ugwu, among others, who attended in solidarity with the empowerment effort.
