The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr Richard Pheelangwa, has affirmed his commitment to staff welfare and conducive work environment insisting that a good work environment enhances workers’ productivity level.

He said this during his familiarization tour of departments, offices and facilities in the Ministry on Monday 1st December 2025 at the Ministry’s headquarters Ship-house, Abuja.

He embarked on the extensive tour round the offices and facilities to assess the working conditions of staff and interact directly with them.Conducive Work Environment Enhances Productivity — Defence Perm Sec, Pheelangwa

During the tour, the Permanent Secretary emphasized the critical link between staff well-being and organizational performance, stressing the need for a conducive work environment. According to him, “A good working environment is good for productivity”.

Furthermore, “Staff spend the greater part of their day at their work places. If the environment is conducive, they are happier, healthier and more productive. I always advise staff to make their work place pleasant and not allow any negativity to affect their work” he added.

Pheelangwa commended the Ministry for its organized structure and expressed satisfaction with the level of orderliness observed during the tour.

He assured staff that his administration will continue to prioritize their comfort with the provision of required tools for enhanced service delivery.

Mr Pheelangwa who assumed duty in the Ministry on 26th November, 2025 has been engaged with the Directors and Heads of Units on briefings aimed at understanding and acquainting himself with the ministry’s operational needs.
