Former Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has issued a strong rejoinder denying a viral online publication that falsely attributed to him a controversial reason for his resignation, describing the report as “malicious, false, and baseless.”
In an immediate press release dated December 3, 2025, and made available to the media, Badaru rejected claims suggesting he resigned because he could not “stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.”
He categorically stated that neither he nor anyone authorized by him made such a statement.
“I wish to state categorically and unequivocally that this publication is entirely false, deliberately mischievous, and did not originate from me or from any authorized representative acting on my behalf,” the former minister declared.
Badaru described the publication as a calculated attempt to malign his character, damage his reputation, and sow unnecessary discord between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he referred to as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the nation’s leader.
According to him, the real and valid reasons for his resignation were formally communicated to Mr. President and subsequently conveyed to the Nigerian public through established conventional and social media outlets.
“The intent behind this fabrication is clear: to tarnish my hard-earned reputation, sow discord between me and the Commander-in-Chief… and create needless distractions from the important work of governance,” he added.
In a clear reaffirmation of his allegiance, Badaru assured President Tinubu, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerians at large of his continued commitment to national unity, peace, and security.
“I remain firmly committed to the peace, security, and stability of our nation. My loyalty to the President and unwavering support for the Renewed Hope Agenda remain intact,” he stated.
He further reaffirmed his dedication to the APC, pledging to continue supporting the party at all levels, particularly as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement was electronically signed by Mohammed Badaru Abubakar in his capacity as former Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, marking a decisive attempt to put to rest growing speculation and misinformation surrounding his resignation from one of the nation’s most critical security positions.
Political observers view the rejoinder as a timely move to counter disinformation and reaffirm unity within the ruling party, amid increasing political activity and alignment towards the next electoral cycle.
