Popular human-interest news platform, Citizens Compass, has emerged winner of the Online Platform of the Year category at the 19th edition of the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Awards (NMNA) 2025, further cementing its growing influence in Nigeria’s digital media space.

The prestigious award ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State, where Citizens Compass outshone three other nominees to clinch the coveted honour.

Founded in April 2021, the daily online publication has carved a distinctive niche for itself through consistent, impactful reporting on human-interest and community-based stories. Its nomination, and eventual victory, was attributed to its relevance, consistency, and the value it continues to add to grassroots reporting and public enlightenment.

Earlier, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Convener and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Awards, Mr. Shola Olugbemiro, announced the commencement of voting across all nominated categories. Following this announcement, Citizens Compass mobilised its readership and supporters, leading to an impressive turnout of votes that secured its win.

Receiving the recognition, the platform’s founder, Bose Adelaja, described the award as a powerful affirmation of dedication, resilience, and hard work in journalism.

A trained Mass Communication graduate of Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Adelaja began her career as a freelancer with the News and Current Affairs Department of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) before rising to become the pioneer reporter on the Metro Desk at Vanguard Newspaper. She later established Citizens Compass, driven by a vision to give voice to ordinary people and spotlight overlooked community narratives.

Speaking after the award presentation, Adelaja expressed profound gratitude to the organisers and supporters of the platform.

“This award recognises hard work in the field of journalism,” she said. “Special appreciation to the organisers of the 19th edition of the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Award 2025 for staging such an epoch-making event and for nominating Citizens Compass in the Online of the Year category, which we won through massive votes.

“I sincerely thank our esteemed readers, family, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers for their overwhelming support and votes. This award is dedicated to our readers both in Nigeria and overseas. Above all, I give thanks to Almighty God for making this possible.”

The Nigeria Media Nite-Out Awards, an annual gathering of media professionals, stakeholders, and industry leaders, celebrates excellence and outstanding contributions to journalism, media practice, and national development under the leadership of Mr. Shola Olugbemiro.

With this latest recognition, Citizens Compass has further strengthened its standing as one of Nigeria’s most influential emerging online news platforms, committed to amplifying community voices and upholding the ideals of ethical and people-centred journalism.
