In a significant political development aimed at strengthening governance and expanding democratic dividends at the grassroots, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State Chapter, has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid. The declaration, made on December 8, 2025, marks a decisive shift in the state’s political trajectory.

The endorsement followed a unanimous resolution reached during a meeting attended by all 23 Local Government Area Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors in Rivers State, signaling broad-based support for President Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction.

The motion was moved by Hon. Sir (Dr.) Chidi Julius Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua LGA, and seconded by Dr. Thomas Bariere, Chairman of Khana LGA, reflecting what participants described as a consensus on the President’s performance.

ALGON Chairman and Mayor of Port Harcourt City LGA, Sir Hon. Allwell Ihunda, reaffirmed the confidence of local government leaders in Tinubu’s governance style. He pointed to federal interventions and political stabilization efforts in Rivers State as key factors behind the group’s decision.

“The endorsement reflects ALGON’s recognition of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to Rivers State’s development,” Ihunda said. He added that ALGON in the state is prepared to mobilize grassroots support to sustain the gains recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The gathering also featured contributions from ALGON executives, Chairmen of the 23 LGAs, Vice Chairmen (Women), and Leaders of the Legislative Council, all of whom articulated their support for the President and emphasized perceived benefits under the ruling party.

The endorsement represents a renewed alignment among critical stakeholders, who pledged loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared their resolve to deliver Rivers State for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Ihunda expressed appreciation to delegates for their solidarity and promised to drive community-focused engagement and mobilization efforts across the state to reinforce support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
