The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, on Saturday added colour and significance to the wedding ceremony of Sharon Amana and Gideon Abalaka, held at the Gospel Inn Auditorium in Ugwolawo, Ofu Local Government Area of the state. The ceremony drew family members, friends, well-wishers and members of the community who gathered to celebrate the union of the couple.
Comrade Salifu attended the event in the company of key government functionaries, including the Director General of the Kogi State Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, the Special Assistant to the Governor, Comrade Yahaya Adama, as well as other government officials, underscoring the importance he attached to the occasion.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Deputy Governor described the wedding as a very special moment in his life, explaining that his relationship with both families went beyond official ties and public engagements.
He recalled that Pastor Ameh Amana, the bride’s father, played a defining role in his early career, noting that he was the first person who handed him his appointment letter when he was employed as a classroom teacher. He further disclosed that the bride’s mother was his classmate, a connection that, according to him, deepened the personal significance of the day.
Comrade Salifu also reflected on his long-standing relationship with the groom’s family, stating that Reverend Elijah Abalaka, the groom’s father, taught him how to sing. He revealed that this mentorship laid the foundation for his musical journey and eventually led to the release of his first gospel album, a milestone he credited to the guidance and support he received at the time.
Describing Sharon Amana and Gideon Abalaka as his own children, the Deputy Governor expressed profound gratitude to their parents for raising them in the ways of God.
He commended the families for their commitment to faith and moral upbringing, which he said had prepared the couple for a successful and God-centred marriage.
In his prayers for the newlyweds, Comrade Salifu asked God to protect them from all forms of harm and to grant them prosperity beyond that of their parents. He prayed that they would live together in peace and harmony, be blessed with children, both male and female, and never lack the fruit of the womb.
The Deputy Governor also used the occasion to reaffirm his closeness to the people, stating that his office remains open to all.
He emphasized that he is a Deputy Governor for everyone, with particular attention to the grassroots, and expressed happiness at being able to identify with his people and share in their joy on such a memorable occasion.
