The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a strong New Year message to Nigerians, saluting their resilience in the face of what it described as worsening national challenges under the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while calling for unity, lawful resistance, and renewed hope ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement signed by its National Chairman, Falalu Bello, OFR, the PRP acknowledged the courage and steadfastness of Nigerians who continue to endure insecurity, poverty, hunger, and what the party termed persistent mismanagement of national affairs. The party noted that despite the harrowing realities confronting the country, citizens have remained committed to the pursuit of a better and more just society, even as daily conditions grow more difficult.

The PRP expressed deep concern that rather than easing the burden on citizens, the current administration has continued to implement policies that allegedly worsen hardship and deepen poverty. Central to this concern, the party said, is the government’s insistence on enforcing new tax laws that have triggered widespread outrage across the country. According to the PRP, these tax laws were shrouded in secrecy and allegedly altered at the point of gazetting, despite overwhelming public calls for their suspension.

The party described the development as a clear indication that the government is not citizen-focused, but instead driven by what it characterized as a selfish agenda serving the interests of a few at the expense of the majority. The PRP argued that the tax laws were not designed for collective national good, but to enrich a select group while further oppressing ordinary Nigerians who are already struggling to survive in harsh economic conditions.

Beyond taxation, the PRP also revisited the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies on the very first day of its inauguration. The party recalled that the administration had promised that savings from the subsidy removal would be redirected into social services. However, it stated that such promises have not been fulfilled, noting instead a surge in borrowing without corresponding investments in social infrastructure. According to the PRP, this failure has left Nigerians bearing the full weight of economic hardship, with living conditions continuing to deteriorate.

The party warned that the continued push to impose what it described as oppressive taxes amounts to further taxing the lives of ordinary citizens, and insisted that such policies must be confronted. It therefore called on Nigerians to unite and take lawful and peaceful actions, including protests and strike actions, to oppose policies and laws it described as unjust and harmful to collective well-being.

Emphasizing the strength of collective action, the PRP stressed that the true power of Nigerians lies in their unity, their voice, and their collective will. The party urged citizens not to be discouraged or intimidated by the defection of what it described as self-centered politicians who prioritize personal gain over patriotism and national interest. According to the PRP, such shifting political allegiances are insignificant when weighed against the resolve of Nigerians united around a common cause.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the PRP encouraged Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in the struggle to reclaim the country from what it termed incompetence and greed. The party declared that the tenure of the APC government must be ended decisively through democratic means, paving the way for a new era anchored on transparency, accountability, and citizen-centered governance.

The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to stand together, lawfully and peacefully, to bring an end to what the PRP described as an oppressive and non-transparent administration, and to collectively build a Nigeria that truly works for all its citizens. The party rounded off its message with expressions of national solidarity, celebrating the resilience of the Nigerian people and extending New Year greetings to citizens across the country.

The statement was signed by Falalu Bello, OFR, National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, who reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the Nigerian people and to the pursuit of a more just, equitable, and people-oriented nation.
