The Obidient Movement has issued a formal clarification reaffirming that its nationwide mobilisation and political commitment are solely dedicated to the emergence of Mr Peter Obi as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, describing the Obi presidency project as a collective mission owned by Nigerians across all divides.
In a press statement dated January 3, 2026, the Movement said it was compelled to address deliberate misrepresentations and malicious propaganda that followed a recent interview granted by its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa. According to the statement, the distortions necessitated a clear and authoritative restatement of the Movement’s position to avoid public misunderstanding.
The Obidient Movement described itself as an organic, values-driven, and nationwide democratic movement rooted in the principles of good governance, accountability, and the rule of law. It stated that its singular objective is to facilitate the emergence of the right leadership for Nigeria through lawful and democratic means.
The statement made it unequivocally clear that the ideals, energy, and collective resolve of the Obidient Movement are fully committed to the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi. It noted that the Movement retains the liberty to align with any political party of its choice, provided such a platform aligns with the person, principles, and leadership vision of Mr Obi.
Explaining the basis of its support, the Movement said its backing of Mr Obi is informed by a firm conviction that he stands out among all frontline presidential contenders. It cited his competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, international credibility, and consistent record of prudent leadership as key reasons for its confidence in his candidacy. The Movement added that this belief is shared by a clear majority of Nigerians across geo-political zones, generations, and political persuasions.
The Obidient Movement also addressed speculations surrounding vice-presidential considerations, stating clearly and without ambiguity that it is not mobilised to support Mr Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. It stressed that its support is exclusive to his emergence as President of Nigeria.
On its current political engagement, the Movement disclosed that it is presently supporting Mr Obi within the platform of the African Democratic Congress in the contest for its presidential candidacy. It assured that it would respect the outcome of the process if it is transparent, credible, and fair, but warned that should the process be compromised, the Movement would take a united, lawful, and democratic decision consistent with its core principles.
The statement further emphasized that wherever Mr Peter Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will move with him. It stated that its loyalty is anchored on his leadership vision and Nigeria’s national redemption rather than on political convenience or compromised platforms.
While reiterating its commitment to peaceful and democratic strategies, the Movement maintained that it would never compromise its principles or its demand for credible leadership for the sake of expediency.
The Peter Obi presidential bid support group recalled that the Movement has endured sacrifice, resistance, and persistent misrepresentation due to its sincere belief in a better Nigeria and declared that it would not be distracted, intimidated, or manipulated by misinformation, media mercenaries, or partisan attacks.
The Obidient Movement concluded by reaffirming that its commitment to the realization of a Peter Obi Presidency remains unshakable, describing it as the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance. As Nigeria approaches what it described as a defining moment, the Movement called on all Nigerians to remain resolute, united, and focused, expressing confidence that a new Nigeria is POssible.
