President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of three ambassadors-designate, marking the first set of diplomatic deployments from the list of 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December, even as no ambassador has yet been designated for Turkey.
The President confirmed the appointment of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are has been approved as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America. In the same decision, President Tinubu also approved the posting of Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, a former Nigerian ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
According a presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the approvals were conveyed in a formal memo addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which the President directed the ministry to commence the necessary diplomatic processes.
He specifically urged the ministry to formally notify the governments of France, the United States, and the United Kingdom of the postings of the respective ambassadors-designate, in line with established diplomatic procedures.
The development underscores the gradual activation of Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad following the Senate’s confirmation of 68 ambassadors-designate late last year, while leaving some key missions, including Turkey, without appointed heads for now.
