The Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party has raised serious concerns over what it described as an alarming escalation of banditry and insecurity in Alkaleri Local Government Area, warning that innocent lives are increasingly at risk if decisive measures are not immediately taken.

In a press statement dated February 23, 2026, and signed by Hon. Abbas Abba, the State Chairman of the party, the PRP expressed deep sadness over the deteriorating security situation in Gwana, Duguri, and surrounding communities. The party noted that the affected areas have become increasingly volatile in recent weeks, attributing the trend largely to their proximity to expansive forests bordering neighbouring states.

The statement strongly condemned what it termed heinous attacks that have led to the loss of innocent lives. It specifically referenced the recent killing of four residents during an armed assault in Kafi village, as well as injuries sustained by several others. According to the party, the wave of violence, which includes abductions, armed clashes, and cattle rustling, poses a grave threat to peace and security and undermines the developmental progress of Bauchi State.

While acknowledging what it described as the swift response of security agencies in containing criminal acts, the PRP maintained that the situation is worsening and requires a more decisive and sustained strategy. It stressed that recent incidents highlight the urgent need for comprehensive measures to restore stability across the affected communities.

The party called for enhanced security deployment by both the Bauchi State Government and the Federal Government, urging the posting of well-equipped and adequately trained security personnel to troubled areas. It emphasized the importance of intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance, and patrol operations to preempt criminal activities and ensure rapid response. According to the statement, a visible security presence would serve as a strong deterrent and help rebuild public confidence.

Beyond immediate security reinforcements, the PRP underscored the necessity of addressing underlying factors such as poverty, lack of education, and youth unemployment, which it said often create fertile ground for criminality. The party argued that confronting these root causes is essential to breaking the cycle of violence.

The statement further advocated stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities, noting that active community participation and timely intelligence sharing could significantly improve operational effectiveness and build trust.

On the issue of accountability, the PRP called for the prompt apprehension and prosecution of perpetrators of violence, abductions, and cattle rustling, insisting that swift and fair justice is critical to reinforcing the rule of law and deterring future crimes.

Describing the security and safety of citizens as the paramount responsibility of government at all levels, the party warned against allowing the menace to spiral further out of control. It reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and sustainable development across Bauchi State.

The PRP also urged community leaders, residents, and security agencies to remain vigilant, resilient, and united in confronting the challenges, stressing that collective action is necessary to restore peace and guarantee a safe environment for all.
