The Obidient Movement has expressed strong support for the growing wave of citizen-led mobilisation across Nigeria, describing it as a reflection of deepening political awareness and a renewed commitment by Nigerians to actively shape the country’s democratic future.
In a press statement dated March 27, 2026, and signed by its Global Coordinator, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the Movement specifically acknowledged the initiative by the Village Boys Movement (VBM), tagged the “2 Million Man March and ADC Registration Drive” in support of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to the statement, “The Obidient Movement acknowledges the growing wave of citizen-led mobilisation across the country, including the initiative by the Village Boys Movement (VBM) tagged the ‘2 Million Man March and ADC Registration Drive’ in support of His Excellency, Peter Obi.”
The Movement noted that such initiatives signal a shift in civic engagement, emphasising that “this development reflects a deepening political consciousness among Nigerians and an increasing willingness by citizens to organise, participate, and shape the democratic process in a more structured and impactful manner.”
Highlighting the importance of grassroots engagement, the statement revealed that the Obidient Movement had taken note of ongoing consultations by the Village Boys Movement at both national and state levels. It stressed that such efforts are vital in converting public sentiment into meaningful political action.
“Following engagements by the Village Boys Movement across national and state levels, the Obidient Movement recognises the importance of such initiatives in strengthening grassroots participation and translating public sentiment into coordinated civic and political action,” the statement read.
The first phase of the planned march is scheduled to hold on March 28, 2026, across multiple states including Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Plateau, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Enugu, Kogi, and Edo, with subsequent phases expected to extend nationwide.
While welcoming the mobilisation, the Movement called on its members and Nigerians at large to participate responsibly, urging adherence to peaceful and lawful conduct. “The Obidient Movement encourages its members, supporters, and all citizens who share the vision of a more accountable and people-centred Nigeria to actively engage in peaceful and lawful civic activities that advance democratic participation and national renewal,” it stated.
The statement further underscored that the ongoing mobilisation transcends any single group or event, describing it as a broader national opportunity. “This moment goes beyond any single event or group. It represents a broader opportunity to build a disciplined, inclusive, and results-oriented movement capable of driving meaningful political change,” the Movement declared.
Emphasising structural and institutional development, the Obidient Movement pointed to the need for sustained political engagement, particularly at the grassroots level. “Central to this effort is the need to strengthen political structures, deepen citizen participation, and ensure that democratic processes reflect the true will of the people. Increased political engagement, including party registration and grassroots organisation, remains critical to achieving these outcomes,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its ideological stance, the Movement reiterated its commitment to values-driven leadership. It stated that “as conversations continue around leadership, equity, and national direction, the Obidient Movement reiterates its commitment to principles of competence, integrity, and service, and aligns with all constructive efforts aimed at advancing these values within Nigeria’s political landscape.”
The group also urged political institutions and stakeholders to respond proactively to citizens’ demands, stressing the importance of foresight and responsibility in governance. “The Movement also calls on political institutions and stakeholders to respond with responsibility and foresight to the growing demand for credible leadership and inclusive governance,” the statement added.
Concluding, the Obidient Movement emphasised that lasting transformation would require sustained and coordinated efforts from citizens across the country. “Ultimately, sustainable change will require coordinated action, strategic organisation, and long-term commitment from citizens across all regions,” it said, reaffirming that “the Obidient Movement remains focused on supporting initiatives that strengthen democratic participation and contribute to building a Nigeria that works for all.”
