Delta State Government’s aggressive infrastructure drive is yielding tangible results across the state, with authorities asserting that ongoing projects are not only transforming the physical landscape but also strengthening economic growth and political stability.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has made infrastructure development a central governance strategy under its MORE Agenda.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Tonight, a programme on Television Continental, Aniagwu explained that the government’s deliberate focus on rural road construction and rehabilitation is unlocking economic opportunities and improving connectivity across Delta’s communities.
He noted that enhanced access to rural areas is already boosting agricultural productivity, facilitating trade, and strengthening social integration, particularly in previously underserved riverine and agrarian communities.
The commissioner disclosed that major urban infrastructure projects are also progressing as planned. He cited the three flyovers in Effurun and Warri as nearing completion, while similar projects at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli and Uromi Junction in Agbor are advancing steadily.
According to him, the administration’s intervention in long-neglected rural road networks is bridging the gap between isolated communities and urban markets, thereby improving livelihoods and reinforcing public trust in government.
Aniagwu emphasized that the state’s infrastructure policy goes beyond road construction, describing it as a broader governance philosophy aimed at inclusive growth and equitable development. He said the government’s prioritization of marginalized areas is addressing longstanding developmental imbalances and ensuring fair distribution of resources.
On the political climate in the state, he maintained that Delta remains peaceful and united under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, attributing the growing public confidence in government to the visible impact of ongoing projects.
He argued that performance-driven governance naturally generates political goodwill, stressing that the administration is focused on delivering measurable results rather than making empty promises.
“The essence of governance is to improve the lives of the people, and that is exactly what Governor Oborevwori is doing through massive infrastructure development,” Aniagwu stated.
He further assured that strict supervision mechanisms are in place to guarantee quality and timely delivery of projects, noting that contractors are being closely monitored and held accountable to ensure value for money.
The commissioner also linked infrastructure expansion to improved security and social stability, explaining that better road networks enhance the mobility of security agencies while opening up isolated communities, reducing crime and fostering peace.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, Aniagwu revealed that more infrastructure projects—particularly in rural areas—are in the pipeline as the government seeks to sustain development momentum across the state.
He concluded that the Oborevwori administration’s blend of infrastructure expansion and responsive governance is gradually redefining politics in Delta State, where performance is increasingly becoming the benchmark for leadership.
