The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has rejected a controversial statement circulating online, which allegedly called on opposition figures to unite and force the ruling party out of the country.
The party, in a statement issued in Abuja at the ADC National Media Centre by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, described the report published by Sahara Reporters as misleading and not representative of its official position.
According to the NDC, the statement in question did not emanate from its national leadership but from what it described as an overenthusiastic supporter. It emphasized that while it appreciates the passion of its members, all public engagements must align with the party’s core values.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to civil and issue-based politics, drawing inspiration from its National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson. It stressed that its political approach is anchored on respect, discipline, and constructive dialogue, rather than inflammatory rhetoric or personal attacks.
The NDC further made it clear that any statement suggesting hostility, coercion, or the removal of individuals or groups from the country is unauthorized and unacceptable.
It urged members and supporters to rely strictly on verified official communication channels of the party for accurate information and to disregard content from unofficial platforms.
The party also called on media organizations to uphold professional standards by verifying statements before attributing them to the NDC.
Reiterating its stance, the party concluded by urging restraint among its supporters and reaffirmed its dedication to promoting responsible political engagement built on civility and national interest.
