The political future of Bende Federal Constituency became clearer last weekend in Etitiulo, Bende Town, as the influential Good Conscience Movement formally collapsed its entire structure into the Labour Party, declaring total support for Governor Alex Otti and Dr. Chima Anyaso for House of Representatives.

It was not just a defection; it was a statement. In a hall filled to capacity, leaders and members of the movement, drawn from across the 13 electoral wards of Bende, announced that they have found the man who will speak for Bende come 2027.

Speaking at the event, the leader of the movement said they were tired of representation defined by endless battles and controversies. According to him, Bende needs a man who will unite, not divide; a man who will listen, not fight; a man who will attract development, not explain away failed projects.

“For years, we watched politics become a battle against our own communities. Today we have decided to support a man who will speak for us, not fight us. We have seen in Dr. Chima Anyaso a young, accessible, and accomplished leader who understands the pain of our people in Umuimenyi, Umuhu, Item, and across Bende,” he said.

The crowd erupted when the group pledged to work for all Labour Party candidates from top to bottom, starting with Governor Alex Otti, whose performance in Abia State they described as a breath of fresh air.

Observers say the move is significant. The Good Conscience Movement is known as a grassroots organization with deep roots in the villages, and its decision to join Labour Party signals a major shift in the political equation in Bende.

For many, the choice of Dr. Chima Anyaso represents a desire for a new kind of representation — one focused on jobs for the youth, support for farmers and traders, quality education, and respect for traditional institutions and the zoning arrangement that has kept peace in Bende.

Unlike the current occupant who is fighting to retain the seat for a third term against the popular will and the 2019 rotational agreement between Ikwu-Isii and Umunna, Anyaso has publicly committed to serving only two terms and respecting the charter of equity.

As one elder at the event put it, “Bende does not need a fighter in Abuja. Bende needs a voice.”

With Etitiulo now in Labour Party, the message from Bende Town is loud and clear: Bende has decided.

VOTE LABOUR PARTY! VOTE DR. CHIMA ANYASO!
