The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday, July 17 as Eid el-Fitr day, putting an end to the annual Ramadan fast, an indication that Friday is now the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal 1436 AH.
TheStreetReporters.com gathered that Nigerian Muslims will now join their counterparts around the world in festivities marking the end of the annual month of deprivation and spiritual rejuvenation.
In making the pronouncement, Sultan Abubakar
said the new moon of Shawwal was sighted in
10 states of the federation.
The Federal Government has already declared
Friday and Monday as public holidays in Nigeria.
