Atiku’s Daughter Rejects Salary, Allowances as Commissioner

Daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Dr Fatima Atiku, who was sworn-in as Commissioner of Health, Adamawa State, on Friday forfeited her salary and allowances, donating all for revitalisation of the state’s the health sector.

She made her decision known while fielding questions from newsmen in Yola after she was sworn–in alongside 21 other commissioners.

The Commissioner, was a Consultant until her appointment, said she was making the sacrifice because of the state’s health sector challenges, which she said were many.

“I am very grateful to the governor for appointing me to head the Health Ministry.

“The ministry is the most challenging because of the insurgency problem that had caused some damage to the health system in the state.

“For this reason, I shall be donating my salary and allowances for use in enhancing the delivery of healthcare service in the state,’’ Fatima said.’’

Gov. Bindow Jubrilla of Adamawa State had noted that the commissioners were appointed on merit, urging them to join hands with him in bringing the desired change in the state.

He noted that their loyalty should be to the people, and not him.

“Your loyalty is to the people of Adamawa, whom you represent, and not to me”, Jibrilla said.

On her part, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Kaletapwa Farauta, who thanked the governor for the
appointment on behalf of her colleagues, assured the governor and the people of the state that they would not betray the confidence reposed in them as they serve.
