Enugu Keeping Faith with Promises Despite Economic Downturn – Gov Ugwuanyi
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State Sunday declared that he has kept faith with his campaign promises to the people of the state in the past 365 days as the state’s helmsman despite the lingering economic meltdown, pledging however to do more in the years ahead.
The governor who spoke at an inter-denominational Church service to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration held at the Michael Okpara Square said despite the bleak economic realities resulting in the fall of the Federal allocation to states to less than 38 per cent, his administration had recorded significant achievements in different sectors of the state economy.
This came as the Methodist Archbishop of Enugu, Most Rev. Christopher Edeh, declared that the sustenance of 17 unbroken years of democracy was a clear proof of the people’s common faith in the progress and stability of Nigeria. He said Nigerians were peculiar people with capability to accomplish any goal they set for themselves despite their differences.
The governor who spoke to an audience that included the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, former Governor Sullivan Chime as wellas other stakeholders and sea of heads from all the 17 councils of the state noted that his administration had in the last one year embarked on the massive development of urban and rural roads across the state in fulfilment of his promise to create more urban centres, enhance rural access and boost economic activities in every part of the state.
