LOKOJA, KOGI STATE — Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, job creation and inclusive governance with the presentation of three buses to organised labour unions in the state.
The buses were presented on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Government House, Lokoja, during an engagement between the governor and the leadership of organised labour.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ododo said the intervention was aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of labour organisations and enabling them to engage more effectively with workers across the state.
He charged the labour unions to ensure that the buses were put to effective and responsible use, stressing that the gesture was part of his administration’s broader commitment to improving workers’ welfare and deepening collaboration with organised labour.
The governor also disclosed plans to create fresh employment opportunities in the state, assuring that the recruitment process would be transparently conducted and targeted at areas where additional manpower is required.
He said his administration would continue to address legitimate demands presented by labour unions as resources become available, while pursuing policies designed to reduce unemployment and improve public service delivery.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, described the engagement as another demonstration of Governor Ododo’s inclusive leadership.
Edoka highlighted several interventions recorded under the administration, including the implementation of an increased minimum wage, tax relief on minimum-wage earners, a 35 per cent allowance for health workers, health insurance for workers and free medical care for pensioners.
He also pointed to the appointment of members of organised labour into government positions, saying the development had strengthened workers’ participation in governance and demonstrated the administration’s willingness to translate its commitments into practical policies.
The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Gabriel Amari, described Governor Ododo as a labour-friendly governor and expressed appreciation for the administration’s sustained attention to workers’ welfare.
Amari particularly commended the governor for sensitising workers on security matters across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
He said the three buses would enhance the operational capacity of the labour unions and make it easier for their leaders to reach workers in different parts of the state.
In a similar vein, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Ahmed Tijani Suleiman, commended the administration for maintaining regular engagement with organised labour and for its efforts to ensure that workers receive appropriate value for their services.
The engagement further underscored the administration’s stated commitment to strengthening its partnership with organised labour while expanding opportunities for employment and improving the welfare of workers across Kogi State.
