The decision followed a three-day consultative engagement involving leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and prominent Igbo stakeholders in Abuja, aimed at building consensus and ensuring a peaceful, inclusive and credible electoral process.

The consultations brought together the Ohanaeze leadership in the FCT, Ndi Ndu, the Elders Council led by Chief S.N. Okeke, as well as state chairmen and other critical stakeholders within the Igbo community in Abuja.

The engagement also featured a meeting at the residence of Chief Ben Obi, as part of efforts to secure broad-based support for the forthcoming election and strengthen unity within the Igbo socio-cultural organisation in the nation’s capital.

To ensure an orderly and credible electoral process, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has constituted a 12-member Election Committee chaired by Chief Ejiofor Onyia, a former Vice President-General of the organisation.

Ambassador Eddy Onuoha, who has served in various capacities in the organisation’s former National Executive Committee, was appointed Co-Chairman, while the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu, will serve as Secretary of the committee.

Other members representing the Global Executive Council (GEC) include Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Global Publicity Secretary; Charles Nkata, Esq., Global Financial Secretary; and Chizoba Iheka, Global Deputy Legal Adviser.

The other members, representing different groups and interests in the FCT, are Odozi Nwodozi, Henshaw Ogubike, Esq., Prof. Charles Nwekeaku, Mrs. Ufere Chinyere, Chief Emeka Mbagha and Mr. Henry Ugwu.

Speaking during the consultations, the committee chairman, Chief Onyia, assured stakeholders that the election would strictly comply with the reviewed Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

He emphasised that fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and strict adherence to established constitutional provisions would guide the electoral exercise.

On his part, the Secretary-General, Emeka Sibeudu, conveyed the appeal of the President-General, Senator Azuta Mbata, to all Igbo sons and daughters resident in the FCT to demonstrate cooperation, discipline and respect for the rules throughout the electoral process.

Sibeudu stressed that collective responsibility, mutual understanding and peaceful participation were essential to ensuring a successful election that would advance unity and progress among Ndi Igbo in Abuja.

The organisation consequently called on all relevant stakeholders, eligible members and the wider Igbo community in the FCT to support the Election Committee and cooperate with it to guarantee a successful exercise.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its organisational structures, promoting unity among Igbo people and ensuring that its democratic processes reflect the collective aspirations of Ndi Igbo.

The November 7 election is expected to mark an important step in consolidating the FCT chapter’s leadership structure and advancing the organisation’s institutional objectives in Abuja.
