Coronavirus Forces Nigeria to Impose Restrictions on Inbound Travellers
…Mandatory 14-day Quarantine as a Result of Coronavirus Disease
Coronavirus outbreak, otherwise known as COVID-19 virus, has compelled the Federal Government of Nigeria to impose restrictions on inbound international travellers from some countries.
Nigerian government has categorised travellers into three. the first and second category of travellers will be required to be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival in the country.
But for category three, travellers who fall into the category will only be required to present a travel history questionnaire, medical inspection, and stamp as fit to travel and no indications of viral infection seven days before the journey.
The Street Reporters Newspaper gathered that countries in category one include China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan and Hong Kong. They will be immediately quarantined for 14 days in a Nigerian government-controlled and approved isolation facility.
The government has also suspended all business travels to or from these countries, just as rotational travel is also suspended.
For the second category, the countries include passengers arriving from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Macau and Taiwan, who will be placed under monitored 14-day mandatory self-quarantine.
The government has placed restrictions on non-critical business travel and requires approval from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Management for critical-business travel.
However, rotational travel from these countries has been suspended till further notice.
The last category are passengers arriving from Australia, France, Germany, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Canada, Vietnam, United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt and Algeria will be required to complete a medical questionnaire seven days prior to the date of travel.
Passengers are to expect response from the medical team within 48 hours.
