Senator Ekwunife Wants Workers Salaries on FACC Account First Line Charge
The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife has called on government to make workers salaries first line charge on the Federation Account.
In a statement delivered on Friday, in commemoration of 2020 International Workers’ Day, the Senator commended the efforts and sacrifice of Nigerian workers.
Her words: “May 1st is universally acknowledged as International Workers’ Day. A day which provides an opportunity to salute the efforts of those who labour to sustain the socio-economic balance of our nation, Nigeria”.
“As we celebrate this day, I join other well meaning Nigerians to commend the efforts and sacrifice of our workers. The contributions of workers across different sectors of our national development can not be overemphasized – they are the engine room of every organization, all establishments and our nation. They are our heroes”.
“Today, however, we celebrate this year’s Workers’ Day without the usual march past and fanfare due to the demands of the time. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent measures put in place by government to contain the spread have not made this period the best of time for workers, who are naturally driven to be productive”.
Continuing, she said: “While our dear country and many countries around the world continue to battle this pandemic, I implore our dear workers to remain steadfast and courageous as we pass through this current challenge which has left many establishments and nations unable to meet the demands of their workers and clients”.
“I call on government at all levels, including the private sector, to prioritize the welfare of workers at this time. As part of efforts to cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, we must make the workers welfare a priority”.
“As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I remain committed to raising and supporting Bills that will create jobs, protect the Nigerian workers and improve the nation’s work environment to the benefit of all Nigerians and in particular the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District who have entrusted me with the mandate to represent them”.
Concluding, Senator Ekwunife urged workers to stay safe, as the nation marks this historic day amid the Covid-19 pandemic. She prayed God to heal our land.
