Coalition for A Better Nigeria Advises Buhari to Double Efforts on Insecurity, Economy, Anti-Corruption
Coalition for A Better Nigeria has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to double his efforts on tackling security challenges in the country, economy, corruption problems, as he enters second half of his second term in 2021.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade AWA Bamiji, the coalition also felicitated with several Nigerian leaders on their birthday anniversaries.
The group said, “We have been facing serious security chanllenges in Nigeria for a long period.
“For instance, the Boko Haram Insurgency sprang up in 2009 while Kidnappings, Killings, maiming, Farmers and Fulani Herdsmen crisis became rapant since advent of this democracy and regrettably, rather than nipping these in the bud by the successful Administrations before now, they all seemed to become powerless on ascenssion to power and all these vices are on increase year in, year out, untill power exchanged hands which always leads to renewed hope of victory in the new Government.
“Some of the major reasons given for this ugly scenario are as follows: We are yet to witness conviction of any major criminal but we are seeing the kind of Amnesty the Federal Government is giving to the repented members of Boko Haram Sect and this will continue to serve as an encouragement for others that are still involving in the Crime. How can we now expect drastic fall in the trend?
“Amnesty should be modified in such a way that living Victims are promoted and celebrated while capital punishment be melted out to the convicted Assassins, Kidnappers, armed robbers, Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram members, Bandits and Hoodlums.
“There is possibility that People in the position of authority even within the military circle are the accomplishes and yet, we expect miracle overnight?
“They have sophisticated foreign ammunitions and the Federal Government always encounters barrier in its several attempts to buy similar or more sophisticated weapons from World Powers according to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed and we think, there won’t be cause and effect, in terms of taking longer time than expected to square them up on the field?”, the Coalition queried.
Proffering immediate Solution to the security challenges in many parts of the country, the group noted that community, regional and state policing “must be adequately encouraged by the Federal Government for it to have rest of mind at the Centre while overseeing a vast area of landmass.”
On Security, the Coalition however gave “kudos to the Nigerian military for successful rescue of over 300 Kidnapped Students of all Boys Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, within few days of abduction and serious borbadiment of Sambisa forest which led to killing of uncountable number of dreaded Boko Haram members.”
On the nation’s economy, the group said, “We commend the Federal Government historic partnership with Innoson Motors to build Nigeria’s First Aircraft, apart from several other giant economic steps and partnerships taken so far in the past five years.”
On Corruption fight, it said the “EFCC, ICPC and Code of Conduct Bureau have recorded a chain of successes but not without peculiar difficulties. It is on this note, we feel that the establishment and smooth take – off, of the Special Court for Corruption Cases will crown the collective efforts of these Anti – Corruption Agencies.”
It advised that “With 2023 general election approaching, it is a known fact that 2022 will be used for the major preparations and People do tag preceding year, a Campaign year. It therefore means, 2021, offers this Federal Government and various States’ Governments which also got into power in 2019, the rare opportunity to do their best in every sphere of their administration because 4 year tenure is gradually rounding up.”
It cautioned that “As Coronavirus Pandemic that is ravaging the Global economy welcomed the whole World into year 2020, it has equally followed it into 2021 signaling a 2nd wave of World economic crisis.
“Therefore, everyone of us must cooperate with the Government by complying with COVID – 19 Protocols so as to minimize its negative impacts on individual, Government and Corporate lives and Properties.
“Nation is once beaten twice shy: Apart from coronavirus pandemic, #EndSARS protest that was later hijacked by Hoodlums across the States of Federation had terribly affected the Nigerian economy beyond our imagination in the year 2020 and its impact has continued to linger on.
“Solution: Security, Economy and Corruption is the 3 Cardinal Programme upon which President Buhari led Federal Government based its electioneering Campaign both in 2015 and 2019 and understandably, it is doing its best up till now but Nigerians are saying your best is not enough for now and therefore, doubling your efforts is the only way out as from 2021 in order to meet their yearnings and expectations of the masses more than before reasonably”, the Coalition said.
Sharing in the joyful moments and sad times with Nigerians, the Coalition said, “Congratulations to Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State and alias Work In Progress for your excellent emergence as Person of the year 2020 (The Nation Newspaper); Governor of the year (New Telegraph Newspaper); and Governor of the year (Leadership Newspaper); Dr Okonjo – Iweala, the first African and the first Woman to lead the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in its 25 years of its existence, as African Person of the year (Forbes Africa) and first African American Cardinal in Catholic history, Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Washington DC.
