Martha Tarhemba Promises Continued Support For Women Football

Former Super Falcons player, Martha Tarhemba has pledged her continued support for promotion of women football and grassroots soccer in Benue state.

Martha Tarhemba was the first woman in the north to play for the Super Falcons.

Tarhemba who made the pledge in a telephone interview with street reporters from her base in US stated at the grand finale of her football tournament in Gboko tagged ” Martha Tarhemba football tournament ” said, she was determined to give back to the society that made her.

At the finals of the football tournament, All Stars Fc of Gboko defeated Golden Pillars of Ameladu 4 – 2 via penalty shoot – out to lift the coveted trophy after full time had ended two goals apiece.

At the end of the finals, various individual awards were given to outstanding players with cash prizes and giant trophy going to winners, runner- up and third placed teams respectively 

Meanwhile, former Nigeria internationals, Moses Kpakor and Aondofa Akosu have poured encomium on Martha Tarhemba for encouraging the growth of football in Gboko.

Kpakor who earned the nickname ” Police man” for marking out Rabah Majah at Algiers ’90 told street reporters in a post match interview described Martha as a rare breed who has not forgotten her past and urged her to make the competiton a yearly tournament.

In the same vein, former Golden Eaglet player at Scotland ’87 world cup, Aondofa  Akosu lauded the gesture pointing out that it would go a long way in discovering and harnessing hidden talents in Gboko and Benue state in general.
