Timely Resolution of Lingering Crisis in Civil Society And Pro-Democracy Movement For Yinka Odumakin And Innocent Chukwuma Burials: A Personal Appreciation
By AWA Bamiji
By now, thousands, if not millions, of People across the World are still aggrieved with us for the unnoticed winding down or pulling down or closure of Odumakin’s Accountability Whatsapp Platform that was trying to seek redress on how N9, 995, 000 cash donations for the 3-day outing of the Civil Society and Pro-Democracy Movement for Yinka Odumakin Burial and by extension, Innocent Chukwuma’s funeral slated for this week were judiciously spent because it was an interesting moment for everybody on the Platform of about 250 eminent Personalities across the Globe, enjoying themselves with various startling revelations and contributions from several Participants.
It was closed down because of the elderly intervention of the above key individuals and several others too numerous to mention here, after we got the good results of what actually went wrong; from whose fault and so on, summary of which later led to the in – House settlement during a 4 hours, 10 minutes zoom meeting held yesterday’s evening and chaired by a renowned figure, Comrade Segun Sowunmi, with Barrister Femi Falana, SAN, as BoT Chairman for the meeting, and few others in attendance.
Regrets: Comrades Segun Mayegun, Shina Loremikan, Solomon Sobade and Alhaji Yerima Shettima.
The sudden pulling down of the Odumakin’s Accountability Platform was most timely and it became necessary because the public tension had gone to the peak last Friday’s afternoon and its tangible results were already on the desk.
It was like switching-off the electricity light when Ronaldo was about scoring in a World Cup final match and I, in the control Room also felt the Global pain. To this end, I say publicly here today, that I am so sorry!
This meeting that was targeted at arriving at a final resolution was held yesterday Sunday, 9th, May, 2021, with Barrister Femi Falana, SAN; Comrade Segun Sowunmi; Prof Anthony Killa; Lagos State NLC Chairperson, Comrade (Mrs) Agnes Funmi Sessi; Comrade Yinka Oladunjoye, ASUU Representative from LASU; Comrades Wale Okunniyi and AWA Bamiji, Convener and the Secretary, Civil Society Organisation and Pro-democracy Movement for Yinka Odumakin and Innocent Chukwuma Burials respectively; Comrade Dayo Adeyemi from Governor Kayode Fayemi CDD; iPhone; Comrade Omolola Sola Justice; Comrade Wole Oladeji from Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission; and Hon (Engr) Janet Adeyemi were in attendance.
At the end of its all, the Convener, Comrade Olawale Okunniyi accepted the responsibility for all that went wrong during the 3-day Burial Outing of Comrade Yinka Odumakin and those key areas where we have recorded huge success, most especially lifting ban on OAU Students’ Union, announcement of which was made Public by Prof Temitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor, Obafami Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, during the Yinka Odumakin’s Tributes’ session, which was held inside Oduduwa Hall, University, Obafemi University, Ile – Ife, on Friday, 23rd April, 2021.
The post meeting consultation has immediately commenced to redress the situation and position our best 11 for the major task ahead, our historic attendance in the Comrade Innocent Chukwuma’s final funeral rite slated for this week’s Wednesday and Thursday in Imo State.
This is the beauty of Democracy and it should be noted that democracy all over the World was fought for by the Civil Society Constituency.
Aluta Continua!
