Obi Iyiegbu, who is popularly known as Obi Cubana because of his Cubana hospitality chain, including nightclub and hotel facilities, broke the internet last weekend with viral videos of the lavish burial he organised at Oba, Anambra State for his mother.
However, amateur social media videographers did Cubana a great disservice with those videos, because they failed to show the essence of the man, and the things that make him tick. The videos caused Cubana much criticism, in addition to a lot of admiration.
In one particular viral video, less than 30 seconds in duration, Cubana was shown ‘spraying’ money which people around rushed to pick.
The video was forwarded copiously all last weekend, and caught the attention of the Akwa Ibom based Man of God, Rev Ntia I. Ntia; whose yearly December 31st Crossover Night service is a landmark event in Uyo.
Rev Ntia is also the founder of Full Life Foundation which distributes bags of rice FROM MORNING TILL NIGHT, every December to residents of Uyo, irrespective of church denomination.
These Showers Of Mercy have continued to be a great blessing to indigent Akwa Ibomites over the years, with Christmas always coming and several times- there would be nothing to eat.
Understandably then, Rev Ntia could not relate to the lavish display that was put out in that video of Cubana.
It is further coming in a season when his (Ntia’s) messages are tailored towards the true use of wealth- for charitable acts, and for soul- winning.
On the other hand, if that Cubana video had been properly and professionally produced and packaged, it would have indicated what Cubana did for a living, and also showcased his massive charitable deeds. BUT THE VIRAL VIDEOS DID NOT DO THIS.
Rev Ntia himself admitted that his criticism of the actions of Cubana, spraying money; was quite harsh.
On Sunday July 18, Rev Ntia had come down hard on the act.
But on Wednesday July 21st 2021, in an early morning service, Rev Ntia APOLOGISED PROFUSELY for his earlier words.
Rev Ntia spoke then with the mien of sincerity and humility.
Right there on the pulpit, the Reverend admitted that after watching a video interview of Cubana produced by the BBC, he regretted his earlier comments on Cubana; RATHER, HE PRAYED GOD TO BLESS UBI CUBANA.
Maintaining that Obi Cubana was a man with a heart for people, Rev Ntia said that Nigeria needs more people like Cubana.
Rev Ntia added that he considers Obi Cubana to be a great young man, who has a heart for people.
