This comes to first celebrate with the Government and Peoples of the Republic of Ghana, and us all in sub-saharan Africa as Ghana – the cradle of pan-African liberation marks 65years of independence. Ghana was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to achieve its independence from European colonial rule, on March 6, 1957.

On 6 March 1957 Kwame Nkrumah, a fierce Pan-Africanist, led Ghana’s Independence campaign and became the country’s first Prime Minister and later President (1957 – 1966), declared to the people of Ghana about their freedom, adding that, “the African People are capable of managing their own affairs and Ghana our beloved country is free forever”.

Of significance is that Ghana’s independence became the pivot around which the rest of most sub-Saharan Africa revolved; “the independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked-up with the total liberation of the African Continent” – Dr. Kwame Nkruma also said. This is why we all celebrate just as much as Ghana and Ghanaians.

Furthermore, Ghana in contemporary times has also continued to superintend the regional diplomatic space and lead the quest for building capacity for a truly independent and united Africa.

The present Government of the Republic of Ghana led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; has in spite of daunting challenges of contemporary times, continued to extol Ghana’s reputation as cradle of Africa’s total independence and emancipation of the African people, while blazing the trail with manifold achievements.
