NPHCDA, Gavi Partnership Fast Tracking Primary Healthcare Development in Katsina – Mannir Yakubu

Katsina State Deputy Governor, QS Mannir Yakubu, has spoken on the state primary health care development at the second biannual review meeting of the Gavi Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on primary health care development in Nigeria.

The MOU was signed between Gavi and eight states of Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Niger, Zamfara, Gombe, Taraba, and Bayelsa.

The meeting which held in Abuja was attended by eight Deputy Governors, Development Partners, Commissioners of Health, State Primary Health Care Development Agencies and Executive Secretaries.

The aim was to assist the states in strengthening routine immunisation and primary health care system.

In his presentation, the Deputy Governor QS. Mannir Yakubu said the involvement of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and Gavi has helped in fast tracking development of primary healthcare in Katsina State.

In the area of engagement the state government has engaged traditional institution, religious leaders, healthworkers and their unions, community based organisations among others.

The Katsina State Deputy Governor noted thàt the groups engaged have helped in developing budget and annual workplan.

Qs. Mannir Yakubu however revealed that local councils are facing financial constraints and a variety of steps are being taken to overcome these challenges.
He also said over seven hundred health workers have been engaged by Katsina State Government.

Earlier in a welcome address the Director general National Primary Health Care Development Agency represented by Dr Ngozi Nwosu urged Governors to provide the required oversight for the implementation of the program.

She Maintained that the MOU will assist the states to fight child killer diseases thereby reducing same.

In a separate remarks the country representative Gavi and his counterpart from UNICEF indicated that the eight participating states will be receiving funding support of about fourty five Millon Dollars between 2022 to 2024 from Gavi.

While on the part of UNICEF, vehicles ,motorcycles,and boats will be distributed to the right states as logistics support for successful implementation of the memorandum of understanding.

The States were also urged to make judicious us of logistics and financial support given to them.

Later keys of Hilux vehicles and motorcycles were handed over to the the States’ Deputy Governors in attendance.

Other papers were also presented by resource person’s at the meetings.
