Earthquake: AASU President Sends Message Of Solidarity To The Kingdom Of Morocco

The President of the All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU), Osisiogu Osikenyi Enyinnaya, has sent a letter of solidarity with the Kingdom Of Morocco to His Majesty, Mohammed VI, King of Morocco and entire peoples of the Kingdom of Morocco over Friday night’s earthquake that hit the country.

In his letter titled “A Statement of Solidarity With The KINGDOM OF MOROCCO” over the 6.8 magnitude earthquake, he urged all students resident in the city of Marrakech “to keep safe and tabs with safety instructions from the relevant Moroccan Authorities.”

The letter reads: “I write to personally convey our solidarity and condolences to His Majesty, Mohammed VI, King of Morocco and entire peoples of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Friday night Earthquake that has hit Kingdom of Morocco in Marakesh and resonating up to the Capital Rabat, some 350km North of the High Atlas mountains.

“We have learnt with great concern and empathy – the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the Kingdom, killing nearly 300 people and damaging buildings in the historic city of Marrakech in the strongest tremor to hit that part of the North African nation in more than a century.

“Our darling Marrakech, a city of some 840,000 people, rich history, and historic hub for trade, aesthetic architecture and a popular tourist destination hosting about a dozen Institutions of Higher Learning has unfortunately come under this tremor of which we cannot and will not question ALLAH.

“While the aftershocks of the tremor may persist – we urge all Residents especially Students in the University Cadi Ayyad Marrakech, Private University of Marrakech, Morocco School of Business, International University of Rabat and all other institutions of Learning to keep safe and tabs with safety instructions from the relevant Moroccan Authorities.

“We commend all relevant Departments in the Kingdom of Morocco especially The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces for swift response with Rescue Operations that are still underway.

“May ALLAH console the His Majesty, Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, Families and entire Peoples of Morocco; as we pray for quick recovery of the injured.

“Receive unabatedly – the solidarity of the All-Africa Students’ Union at this time as always, please”, the letter concluded.

At the last count, over 600 casualties have been recorded after the devastating earthquake.
