This Perennial NURTW Leadership Tussle

Spread the love

By Timothy Oladele Gold

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything”  – Albert Einstein.

Taking umbrage at injustice and other forms of infractions is often instrumental to societal development. The lesser the voice of protest against faux pas is heard the more precarious life becomes for the less privileged and the voiceless.

Every peace loving Nigerian understands that the union is question serves as a tool in hands of politicians during electioneering campaigns and any internal crisis is always a human disaster and deplorable  situation.

A pacifist can not hold back his indignation in the role played by the nation’s inspector general of police, Kayode  Egbetokun in the recent National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ) leadership tussle.

The role of Nigeria police towards usurping a democratically elected leadership of NURTW is ruritanian in every sense. This intervention may look mediating but lopsided as fair as fairness and equity  are concerned.

Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa who took the baton of leadership from immediate principal nem com was lured along side with few other national officers who were currently languishing in unlawful detention.

It was gathered that Baruwa, Anthony Chukwudi Asogwa, Union General Secretary, Abdulkadir Musa, General Secretary were all detained via ostensible peace brokering
deal.

While the information made available proves that Alhaji  Tajudeen Agbede and his cohorts have taken over the national secretariat of the union in Abuja in defiance of the law and principle of democracy.

Though, Alhaji Ibrahim Sanda Kuje and Alhaji Saliu Adamu Chairmen of FCT and Nasarawa State councils, respectively, have jointly signed a press statement condemning the atrocious act, obviously, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo led faction of NURTW  has conspired to hijack the national secretariat of the union with impunity.

The write up is hinged on the position of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero and the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja who who jointly signed a communiqué threatening to coordinate all its affiliates for protest and downtools in support of NURTW legitimate leadership.

True democrats world over  are of the opinion that, democracy can only survive if we encourage its practice and ideals in each  microcosm of the society …. While every peace and justice loving  individual should be calling on the relevant quarters to quell the inferno.
