ALGON Mourns Rep Gombe Alhaji Haruna, Benson Asen BOT Member As National President Alabi Condoles Govs Inuwa Yahaya, Diri
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has been thrown into mourning mood sequel to the death of the caretaker chairman of Gombe Local Government, Hon. Alhaji Aliyu Usman Haruna, who died in a hospital in Egypt, and the demise of the Association’s Board of Trustees (BOT) member, Benson Asin Member.
The National President of ALGON, Hon. Kolade David Alabi in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja, condoled Governors Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and Senator Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State and the people of the respective states over the loss of the duo.
According to the press statement which read in part, “Alabi on behalf of the National Executive Council, the Board of Trustees of ALGON heartily condole Governor Muhammadu Yahaya and the good people of Gombe State over the incident.
“In another sad development, The ALGON National President has mourned with the people of Bayelsa over the death of Benson Asin Member Board of Trustees of ALGON and one-time local government Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area of Delta state”.
The ALGON leader “expressed shock over the news of the NEC officer and his BOT counterpart.
“ALGON National President stressed that the Association was going through painful mood having been thrown into deep mourning over the news of demise of these officers with total sadness.
“While it was reported that Haruna was admitted in Egypt for undisclosed medical attention and unfortunately passed on Tuesday in an Egyptian hospital, Benson Asin the BOT member was reportedly sick for some time before giving up the ghost same Tuesday.
“The news of both deaths was received with pandemonium across the local governments in states and at ALGON headquarters.
“Hon Alabi extended his heartfelt condolences alongside that of NEC and the BOT to the immediate families of both deceased, as well as the people of Gombe Local Government, and Sapele Council in Delta State respectively.
“The ALGON National President recalled the leadership qualities and commitment of both of the officers to the development of the grassroots administration. While Alabi prayed God and Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest, he urged all the Council Chairmen, Principal Officers and The Board of Trustees, Management and staff to pray for them and reach out to the families.
“Meanwhile a condolence register has been opened at ALGON headquarters for tributes in honour of the deceased officers”, the statement added.
