Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Sunday, condoled the Uloho family of Ughelli Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area on the passing of their illustrious son, Chief Austin Uloho.
Chief Uloho a former President General of the Ughelli Descendants Union and erstwhile third Deputy President -General of the Urhobo Progress Union, (UPU), died on Thursday February 15, 2024. He was 73.
Governor Oborevwori, who sent a high-power delegation led by a former Secretary to the State Government, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, to commiserate with the family, said the passing on of Chief Uloho was not just a huge loss to the family and the people of Ughelli, but to Deltans in general.
Presenting a condolence letter written by the Governor to the Uloho family, Agas said; “you will recall that shortly before the last general elections, the Governor came here to seek the prayers and support of Chief Austin Uloho who prayed for him and wished him victory and, by the grace of God, Governor Oborevwori triumphed in the election.
“The Governor would have loved to quickly come in person but because of the exigencies of duties, he was unable to come.
“He has, however, sent a high-power delegation to the Uloho family and, on behalf of the Delta State Government, I wish to formally condole the Uloho family on the passing on of Chief Austin Uloho.
“As a government, we are aware that he was a distinguished politician, a businessman of repute, a community leader and an excellent bridge builder.
“While he was alive, he stood for peace and truth and believed in civil engagement which he epitomised till his last day on earth, and, to that extent, he impacted a lot on the people of Ughelli North and Delta State.
“His death is a huge loss, and, on behalf of the state government, we pray God to give you the fortitude to bear his demise.”
Responding, Chief Steve Uloho, who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Government for identifying with the family in their time of grief.
Those on the delegation included; Hon. Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Olorogun Jaro Egbo; the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education; Hon. Samuel Mariere; the Chairman, Delta State College of Health Technology, Ofuoma, Dr Chris Oharisi; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olorogun Festus Ahon, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Hon. George Ojefia, Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Hon. Kelly Oghenekevwe and a host of others.
