Sowore, Family Survive Extremely Rare 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake in US
The recently freed Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore and his family survived a rare earthquake that swayed landmarks and cracked roads in New York and cities on the US East Coast.
Sowore reunited with his family in the US after five years of restriction from international travel by Nigerian court over his RevolutionNow campaign under former President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The magnitude-4.8 quake struck at 10:23 local time (15:23 GMT) near Lebanon, New Jersey, and could be felt from Pennsylvania to Connecticut.
According to a BBC report, residents spoke of being rocked by a violent rumbling that threw objects around their homes and damaged walls.
Officials are now conducting safety assessments of infrastructure.
However, in his reaction after the earthquake, Sowore said, “I was in a 4.8-magnitude earthquake that just ripped through my area in New Jersey. My family and I are safe!”
