University of Nigeria Nsukka Appoints New Acting Vice-Chancellor
In a significant development at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Professor Romanus Ezeokonkwo has been named the acting vice-chancellor. Prof. Ezeokonkwo, who previously served as the deputy vice-chancellor, Administration, emerged victorious in the recent elections held by the university’s senate.
The announcement was made by the university’s spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, following the conclusion of the Senate’s 422nd session.
Prof. Ezeokonkwo secured the position with a decisive 200 votes, surpassing his contenders, Prof. Johnson Urama, the deputy vice-chancellor Academic, and Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu, the deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus, who received 180 and 25 votes, respectively.
This leadership change comes as Prof. Charles Igwe’s five-year tenure as vice-chancellor approaches its end on June 10.
The university community anticipates a seamless transition and a continuation of the institution’s legacy of excellence under Prof. Ezeokonkwo’s stewardship.
Prof. Ezeokonkwo, a distinguished scholar in Veterinary Parasitology, has an illustrious academic background, holding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), a Master of Science (MSc), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from UNN.
His academic journey is marked by notable achievements, including his fellowship with the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria, and his time as a Fulbright Scholar in the USA.
Born on August 7th, 1965, in Nkpologwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra State, Nigeria, Prof. Ezeokonkwo’s career is a testament to his dedication to veterinary science and education.
The new Acting Vice Chancellor earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 1990, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in 1997, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2009, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
His expertise lies in Veterinary Parasitology, and he is a Fellow of the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria (FCVSN), an honor he received in 2010.
Additionally, Prof. Ezeokonkwo’s scholarly pursuits took him to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst during the 2001/2002 academic session.
Throughout his career, Prof. Ezeokonkwo has contributed significantly to the field of veterinary science, with a focus on protozoology.
His research has been widely recognized, as evidenced by his h-index and numerous citations, reflecting the impact of his work in the scientific community.
