The football community is in mourning following the announcement of the death of Kevin Campbell, the former Arsenal and Everton striker, at the age of 54.

Campbell’s passing was confirmed by his former Nottingham Forest teammate Mark Crossley, who expressed his devastation on social media platform X.

Campbell’s career was marked by significant achievements, including being part of Arsenal’s 1990/91 League Championship winning team.

He also scored a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup final in 1988, which showcased his early promise as a prolific striker.

His contributions were pivotal in Arsenal’s FA Cup and Coca-Cola Cup victories in 1993, as well as their European Cup Winners’ Cup win in 1994.

Starting his career as a trainee with Arsenal in 1985, Campbell quickly made a name for himself by scoring 59 goals in one season for Arsenal’s Academy.

His talent was evident from the start and set the stage for a successful professional career.

Despite being admitted to hospital in May, details of Campbell’s illness were not widely shared.

Both Everton and Arsenal had previously released statements wishing him well during his hospitalization.

Crossley’s heartfelt statement reflected the sentiments of many who knew Campbell: “Life can be so cruel at times. Absolutely devastated with news of my ex-Forest teammate Kevin Campbell’s passing, a true gentleman, a great player, a shining light of a dressing room, fun-loving guy, thoughts are with all his family and friends. RIP mate 😢❤️🙏”

The loss of Kevin Campbell is felt deeply across the football world, not only for his contributions on the field but also for his character off it.

He will be remembered as a gentleman of the game, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of fans and fellow players alike.
