Northern Group Warns Against ‘Misguided’ Protest, Calls for Collaboration with Government
The Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) has sounded a warning against the planned protest scheduled for August 1st-10th across selected states in Nigeria, including the FCT, describing it as “misguided” and “ill-timed”. In a press statement, the group’s Convener/Chairman, Alhaji Ali Abacha, urged citizens, especially the youth, to reject the call to protest and instead work collaboratively with the government to address the country’s challenges.
The NPF expressed concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability among the protest’s proponents, describing them as “faceless”. The group warned against allowing citizens to be used as political thugs while the organizers’ own children reside safely outside the country.
While acknowledging the difficulties and pains faced by Nigerians, particularly with the astronomical increase in the cost of staple foods, the NPF called on the President to urgently address this issue and work closely with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to track the distribution of palliatives to the states.
The group offered their support to the government in addressing these challenges and ensuring that palliatives reach those in need. They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to build a better Nigeria and urged the government to maintain constant communication with ordinary citizens to understand their needs and concerns.
The NPF also called for a culture of transparency, accountability, and open communication, ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard and their needs are met. By working together with CSOs, the government can gain valuable insights into the challenges faced by citizens and develop targeted solutions to address them.
In a statement, Alhaji Ali Abacha said, “We must not allow ourselves to be used as political thugs while the organizers’ own children reside safely outside the country. We should be patient and give the present administration time to address the challenges we face.”
