Labour Party NTC Warns Against Julius Abure’s Illegal Congresses and National Convention, Consequences
The Labour Party National Transition Committee (LP-NTC) has issued a stern warning to party members and the general public against the planned membership registration/validation, congresses, and national convention called by the suspended former Acting National Chairman of the party, Mr. Julius Abure.
The LP-NTC in a statement signed by Chairman and former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, described Abure’s actions as “yet another illegal crime enterprise” and urged Nigerians to stay away.
According to the LP-NTC, Abure’s tenure as chairman has expired, and any act conducted by him or his expired council on behalf of the Labour Party is null and void.
The committee cited the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) rejection of Abure’s attempts to process and submit documentation for the Ondo state gubernatorial election and the commission’s recognition of the LP-NTC as the legitimate authority to conduct party affairs.
The LP-NTC alleged that Abure has struck a deal with a frontline ruling political party to conduct “Labour Party state congresses and National Convention by any means” to ensure maximum anarchy and disintegrate the Labour Party.
The NTC warned that Abure’s actions would lead to disastrous consequences for the party and urged the Nigeria Police and the press to take action against him.
“The goal of the scheme is to ensure maximum anarchy of internal rancours designed to tear and disintegrate the Labour Party to ‘hopeless shreds’ so that by 2027 general elections, the Labour Party would be a feckless shadow of itself incapable of posing any electoral challenge to the chaos sponsoring ruling political party,” the LP-NTC stated.
The committee also alleged that Abure and his team have been bankrolled by the ruling political party to conduct the illegal congresses and national convention, with promises of ministerial and senatorial slots in 2027.
The LP-NTC called on the police to prevent Abure’s “Broadway series of daylight crimes” and prosecute him for his alleged offenses.
The committee also urged the press to beam its gatekeepers’ lights on Abure’s “incorrigible felonies” and save Nigeria from the shame and mockery of its democracy.
“Democracy dies in the dark,” the LP-NTC quoted the Washington Post’s motto, emphasizing the need for the press to expose Abure’s alleged crimes.
“No newspaper, radio or television media to date has commissioned an in-depth investigative exposé to make bare to the Nigerian public the veracity or otherwise of the allegations of heinous crimes against Abure in the Labour Party.”
The LP-NTC urged Nigerians to support its efforts to clean up the party and save Nigeria’s democracy from Abure’s “protracted plague.”
The committee emphasized that it would not sit back and allow Abure to destroy the Labour Party, the last hope of social-political and economic liberation of Nigeria.
The Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar led committee, emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the Labour Party is not destroyed by Abure’s alleged illegal activities.
“We call on all genuine Labour Party members, democracy lovers, long suffering workers and masses of Nigeria whom the Labour Party represent to join us in this fight against Abure and his co-conspirators,” the LP-NTC stated. “Together, we can save the Labour Party and Nigeria’s democracy from the clutches of Abure and his sponsors.”
It will be recalled that Abure’s tenure as National Chairman expired on June 10, 2024. Before the expiration of his tenure, Abure was suspended by the Labour Party in Ward 3, Arue, Uromi in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In May, 2024, Edo State executive of the party and their supporters stormed the INEC Headquarters and were received by top INEC officials, who commended their peaceful nature and pledged to look into their requests.
A letter notifying INEC of his suspension dated May 14, 2024, and another letter of ratification dated May 15, 2024, both of which were ratified at a meeting of the state executive committee on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Benin, stated that the suspension was with immediate effect.
