LP-NTC Chairman Releases Note of Reflection As Labour Party Stakeholders Meet In Umuahia to Chart New Course
The Labour Party is set to hold an expanded stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, today, September 4, 2024. The meeting is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including leaders, members, and well-wishers of the party, to reflect on the party’s current state and chart a new course for its future.
In a note for reflection released yesterday, the Chairman of the Labour Party National Transition Committee (LP-NTC), Comrade Abdulwahed Omar, urged stakeholders to deeply consider the counsel offered by the committee in recent months. He emphasized the need for redemptive action to save, reposition, and consolidate the party into a truly national, formidable, and indomitable election-winning fortress.
Comrade Omar highlighted the party’s loss in the 2023 presidential and state elections, attributing it to internal factors, including the prioritization of self-enrichment over polling agents’ empowerment and diligence in tribunal documentations. He warned against repeating the same mistakes in 2027.
The LP-NTC Chairman expressed confidence in the party’s leaders, Mr. Peter Obi and His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, to provide impeccable and permanent solutions. He quoted Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Acting Chairman of NLC Political Commission, who emphasized the party’s founding vision to provide a political shelter for workers and ordinary masses.
Dr. Babalola Akabashorun, a member of the Peter Obi 37 Merger Movement, stressed the need for the party to cleanse itself of corruption and fraud. He urged the leadership to take decisive actions to rebuild the party and put it on a decisive rebound for ultimate triumph in Nigeria’s elections.
Other speakers, including Dr. Sam Amadi, Deputy National Chairman, LP National Transition Committee, and Comrade Tony Akeni Le Moin, Chairman of the NTC Sub-committee on Media & Publicity, emphasized the importance of reconciliation, canvassing, convincing, and converting new members to join the party.
The meeting is expected to produce a “Magna Carta of progress” that will bring lasting healing and restoration of hope and faith to the party’s members and Nigerians at large. With the right decisions taken at the right time, the Labour Party can achieve much more and become a truly national, formidable, and indomitable election-winning fortress.
