Peter Obi Clears the Air on Recent Interview, Reiterates Commitment to Nigeria’s Progress
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent interview with News Central TV. Obi stated that he has been inundated with calls and concerns regarding the interview, which he claims has been distorted by “fifth columnists” through propaganda.
In the interview, Obi emphasized his openness to collaborating with others who share his vision for advancing Nigeria’s progress, but clarified that he would not work with those whose intentions are centered on state capture. He reiterated his commitment to the Labour Party and stated that anyone wishing to negotiate or join forces must disclose their true intentions.
“I do not want to be one of those preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges,” Obi said. “I am not desperate to become president, but I am determined to see Nigeria work.”
Obi also addressed the misrepresentation of his words, stating that he never said he would be vice president to anyone. “My statement was unequivocal, and I am genuinely surprised by the misrepresentation of my words,” he said.
He emphasized his commitment to Nigeria’s progress, stating that he believes it is possible to contribute to the country’s development without occupying any office. “My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe it is possible to contribute to its progress without occupying any office as I am already doing,” Obi said.
In conclusion, Obi called on those who claim to want to work with him to explain how they plan to address the country’s pressing challenges, such as ensuring no child is left behind, bringing millions of out-of-school children back into classrooms, ensuring healthy living, and pulling people out of poverty.
