Akwa Ibom Police Command Tightens Security for Local Government Elections
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has assured residents of watertight security ahead of the Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5.
Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, directed a comprehensive security strategy, assisted by sister security agencies, to ensure peaceful polls. “We are fully prepared to ensure a secure and hitch-free election,” CP Eribo stated.
CP Eribo urged political actors and players to eschew violence, utterances, and actions that could heat up the system. He also appealed to the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully, noting that “the Force will not condone any act capable of creating panic, tension, or crisis.”
To achieve this, the Command announced a restriction of movement from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on election day, exempting essential personnel who can provide valid identification.
CP Eribo assured that every citizen would enjoy full protection from the Police and sister security agencies.
In case of emergencies, the public can contact the Command through designated hotlines.
ASP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, signed the release, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to a secure and orderly electoral process.
“The Commissioner of Police calls on all Political actors and players to eschew all forms of pre, during and post election violence, utterances and actions capable of heating up the system and creating panic in the State,” the release stated.
With these measures in place, Akwa Ibom residents can expect a secure and peaceful electoral process.
