The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has elected Hon. Bello Lawal from Katsina State as its new National President during its 50th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The election followed the dissolution of the entire National Executive Council and its Principal Officers at the meeting chaired by the Chairman Board of Trustees (BOT), Chief Odunayo Ategbero.

Outgoing National President, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, thanked the NEC, BOT, and Management Staff for their support, which led to fruitful programs and exceptional transformations in capacity-building and multi-sectoral engagements.Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has elected Hon. Newly elected President Bello Lawal expressed his joy and determination to live up to expectations, stating that he will maximize the opportunity to sustain the growing impactful records in the Association. He also pledged to consult and seek wise counsel from previous national presidents, including Hon. Ibrahim Jaro, Hon. Felix Akabue, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, and Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata.

Other elected principal officers include:

  • Deputy National President: Hon. Chief Moses O. Nomeh (Ebonyi State ALGON Chairman)
  • National Treasurer: Hon. Oluwasegun Samuel (Ekiti State ALGON Chairman)
  • National Publicity Secretary: Hon. Anani Hamisu Mohammed (Plateau State ALGON Chairman)
  • National Organizing Secretary: Hon. (Chief) Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa (Delta State ALGON Chairman)
  • Welfare Officer: Hon. (Dr.) Aminu Hassan (Taraba State ALGON Chairman)
  • Financial Secretary: Hon. Iliyasu Zakari (Niger State ALGON Chairman)
  • National Auditor: Hon. Bukar Adamu (Yobe State ALGON Chairman)

These new leaders are expected to promote efficient and grassroots-driven local government governance, pursuing effective partnerships with national, state, and international stakeholders.
