UNN: We’ve Successfully Provided Free High-speed Wi-Fi For Students, Lecturers — Faculty Of Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Dean

The new Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Chukwuemeka S. Nworu, has provided free high-speed Wi-fi for students and lecturers of the faculty in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State.

Prof. Nworu, who assumed duty as the Dean less than three months ago, spoke during the Faculty’s Induction/Oath-taking ceremony of the 2022/2023 graduands in the university said the initiative was aimed at enhancing the academic experience and to create opportunities for innovative learning.

He said: “Laddies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues and distinguished guests, since my assumption of duties as Dean on August 1, 2024, our faculty has made significant strides towards realizing the vision captured in our campaign mantra: Restore, Heal, Innovate and Advance.

“We have initiated a systematic process of restoration, healing, promoting a renewed sense of unity and shared purpose among faculty members, students and staff.

“In the spirit of innovation, we have introduced cutting-edge solutions to streamline student results management and academic progress tracking. I am pleased to announce that within a shot period, we successfully developed a result management portal for the PharmD program.

“Additionally, our talented 200-level student, Raphael Emmanuel Chibueze, under the guidance of the Dean’s office and the support of our examination unit, chaired by Dr. Abdullmumini Isah, created the UNN Pharmacy CGPA calculator —an innovative tool that will greatly assist in academic planning and performance evaluation”.

“Our Faculty’s e-library and CBT centre, which had been inactive for the past two years, have been revitalized and are now fully operational, serving as venues for professional examinations and continuous assessments. I am equally proud to report that students discipline, dedication to studies and respect for academic regulations are gradually being restored”, Prof. Nworu said.

The Dean, who spoke alongside Prof. Polycarp Emeka Chigbu, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, represented by Prof. Romanus Ezeokonkwo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Administration), Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Deputy Governor, Anambra State, Pharmacist Sir Ike Onyechi, Chairman of the occasion, Pharmacist Ibrahim Babashehu Almed, Regisrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria represented by Pharmacist Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ohaeri, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, Keynote speaker, and Dr. Ebere Ayogu, the Associate Dean in his audience, also said, “We have also launched the inaugural edition of the faculty news Digest for August – September. This initiative aims to enhance the flow of information within our Faculty, alumni, parents and stakeholders”.

On the free high-speed Wi-Fi, he further said, “As additional funds become available, we will implement a Local Area Network (LAN) and extend connectivity to all accessory offices and laboratories owned by the faculty. This project is on-going and will be improved upon over time”.

In his own speech, the special guest of honour at the event, who is the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, KSP, also called on the 2022/2023 graduands to strive to make UNN and the nation effective in healthcare delivery.

He also intimated them that with the various reforms that were coming, even those that might want to travel should remember that there is hope in this country, pointing out that Nigeria has been rated as one of the greatest producers of professionals in the world.

In a chat with newsmen after the event, Pharmacist (Sir) Ike Onyechi, who graduated 44 years ago from UNN assured the graduands that with God on their side, the sky would be their beginning.

Also speaking with the journalists after the event, the Keynote Speaker and the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FPSN, FAS, said, “We are happy that the same seed that was sown is still germinating and bringing forth very good fruits”.

Prof. Esimone, therefore, remarked, “I say congratulations to the graduands, lecturers, parents and the guardians who nurtured them and brought them to this height”.

On her part, the Representative of the Chairman, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN), who doubled as the Zonal Director, PCN, Enugu, Pharmacist Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ohaeri, lamented that up till today, there are no enough Pharmacists in Nigeria to handle the Pharmaceutical landscape of the country.
