Actors Guild of Nigeria Clarifies Internal Memo, Denies Watching Senate President’s “Alleged Side Chicks”
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has reacted swiftly to “false reports” circulating in the media, clarifying the contents of its internal memo dated October 17, 2024.
In a press release personally issued by the AGN President, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, the AGN addressed the misinformation and set the record straight.
Recently, the AGN suspended a member for leaking false information to bloggers, spreading rumours about inappropriate relationships involving other members.
Dr. Rollas explained, “After a thorough investigation, it became clear that these fabricated stories were intended to cause significant harm to the reputations of our respectable members and body as a whole.”
The internal memo, which was misinterpreted by certain bloggers, aimed to investigate other members who may have been involved in similar misconduct.
Dr. Rollas noted, “The sole aim of the reference to the Senate President was to establish that we are also trying to unearth the purveyors of the falsehood similar to the one that resulted in the suspension of one of our members.”
However, bloggers notorious for publishing fake stories twisted this information to report that the AGN had placed Senator Akpabio’s alleged side chicks on a watchlist. Dr. Rollas condemned this as a “deliberate distortion of the facts” aimed at embarrassing and bringing into disrepute the person of the President of the Senate.
“The memo in question was an internal communication, not intended for public dissemination,” Dr. Rollas emphasized. “The focus of the memo was the suspension of a member who had tarnished the reputation of our esteemed members. It had nothing to do with Senator Akpabio or any alleged relationships involving him.”
Dr. Rollas identified The Whistler and Opera News Bloggers as the primary sources of this false story and demanded an immediate retraction. “We categorically state that there is no truth to their reports. The individuals on our watchlist are those who have been spreading damaging rumors—not alleged ‘side chicks.'”
The AGN President warned other news media against spreading this false story, advising them to desist from doing so in their own interest. “We urge these bloggers to retract their misleading reports immediately and issue an apology for misappropriating and misrepresenting our internal communication.”
In conclusion, Dr. Rollas reaffirmed the AGN’s commitment to protecting the reputation of its members and promoting a culture of truth and accountability within the organization.
